Tonight I reunited with the sweet middle eastern treat known as Baklava. Years ago I gave it a shot, must have had a bad batch though. Baklava is one the of the most delicious pastries in the entire world and I suggest everyone to go get some right now. It is a flaky pasty with honey and nuts. Very simple, very satisfying. They sell it at Publix in the deli but it’s not as good as the Fresh Market baklava. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, go wild.

Thai food is probably one of the best genres of food known to man. Of course I was stoked out of my mind to dine at a Thai joint tonight, and even better, one I have never had the opportunity to go to prior. Unfortunately, I am spoiled when it comes to good Thai food. Tonight’s Thai experience was a true flop. Don’t get me wrong: it’s a great place and the food was in fact editable, just far from acceptable. Usually, when trying out a new place I tend to order a dish I am extremely familiar with. Playing it safe, like the weenie American I am, I ordered the Pad Thai Noodles with Fried Tofu. This is an excellent dish and a great one to break the ice for new Thai eaters, also great for vegetarians. To make a long story short, I felt like I was eating a bowl of soggy worms. The tofu was more like steamed then fried, the baby corn was rock hard, and there was absolutely no Thai spices at all that give it that signature kick. Everything short of the real deal. It wasn’t cheap either—-13 bucks!! Really?! I should have went to the local bait shop.
If you are looking for some great Pad Thai, I HIGHLY recommend Tobu located on Turtle Creek Boulevard, in Coral Springs, Florida. It’s the authentic stuff. They are pretty generous with the spices and they have a neat sushi bar for all you hipsters out there. Not to mention, the staff are friendly and thoughtful.
Good eats, good people, and a good time.
